How the race unfolds
De Ronde is a race of elimination. The bergs, coming in rapid succession in the final 80 km, filter the peloton like a sieve. By the time the race hits the Oude Kwaremont for the final time (17 km from the finish), only 15–20 riders remain. The final selection happens on the Patterberg (13 km out) — the last cobbled climb, steep enough to split even the reduced group.
