- Van Rysel is Decathlon's premium road brand (Dutch for 'from the thoroughbred'). Launched 2019, it reached the WorldTour in 2024 as the bike of dsm-firmenich PostNL — the first direct-retail brand at cycling's top tier
- RCR is the all-around race bike: ≈790 g frame (size M), wind-tunnel-developed with NTUA Athens, available with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 or a Campagnolo Super Record Wireless collaboration edition
- Van Rysel's value proposition is extreme: the RCR Pro Di2 ships at roughly half the price of a Trek Madone SLR or Specialized Tarmac SL8 with the same groupset, via Decathlon's vertical integration (own design, own manufacturing)
- The lineup is deliberately small — road only (RCR, EDR endurance, NCR alloy) plus the Graille gravel bike. No mountain, no triathlon; Van Rysel is a focused road-racing brand

Why Van Rysel matters
Van Rysel is the most aggressive value play in road cycling. By combining Decathlon's manufacturing scale with a genuine wind-tunnel-developed carbon frame, it delivers WorldTour-level equipment at roughly half the price of the traditional premium brands. The 2024 WorldTour debut (dsm-firmenich PostNL riding the RCR) was the proof point: a direct-retal bike competing at the highest level.
The trade-off is the inverse of a boutique brand: limited model range, limited sizing in some regions, and dealer service via Decathlon stores rather than dedicated bike shops. For riders who prioritize frame quality and groupset value over brand prestige, Van Rysel is hard to beat.

Road — RCR, EDR, NCR
RCR: the flagship, and the dsm-firmenich PostNL team bike. Developed in the NTUA Athens wind tunnel, the RCR is an aero-influenced lightweight frame (≈790 g, size M). The Campagnolo Super Record Wireless edition is a genuine collaboration — Van Rysel is one of the few OEMs shipping Campagnolo's wireless groupset. The RCR Pro Di2 at ≈$4,500 with Dura-Ace Di2 is the value statement of the entire lineup.
EDR: the endurance road bike, with a taller stack and 35 mm tire clearance. Same carbon philosophy as the RCR but relaxed geometry for long days.
NCR: the aluminum entry — the cheapest way onto a Van Rysel. Endurance geometry, alloy frame, Shimano Tiagra or 105.
Van Rysel road family. RCR is the aero+light race platform; EDR is endurance; NCR is the alloy entry.
| Model | Category | Frame | Groupset (top build) | Tire clearance | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RCR Pro | All-around race (pro) | Carbon, ≈790 g | Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 | 33 mm | ≈$4,500 |
| RCR Pro Campagnolo | All-around race (collab) | Carbon, ≈790 g | Campagnolo Super Record Wireless | 33 mm | ≈$7,000 |
| RCR | All-around race | Carbon | Shimano 105 Di2 / Ultegra Di2 | 33 mm | ≈$3,000 |
| EDR | Endurance | Carbon | Shimano 105 Di2 / Ultegra Di2 | 35 mm | ≈$2,500 |
| NCR | Endurance (alloy) | Aluminum | Shimano Tiagra / 105 | 32 mm | ≈$1,200 |

Gravel — Graille
Graille: Van Rysel's carbon gravel bike, 45 mm tire clearance, Shimano GRX builds across price points. The Graille uses the same design language as the RCR (clean, aero-influenced) adapted for mixed-surface geometry. At ≈$2,200 for a carbon gravel bike with GRX, it undercuts most competitors by $500–1,000.
Van Rysel gravel. Single carbon platform, 45 mm clearance.
| Model | Frame | Tire clearance | Groupset | Starting price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Graille | Carbon | 45 mm (700c) | Shimano GRX (mechanical/Di2) | ≈$2,200 |

Van Rysel's value model
Vertical integration: Van Rysel is designed in-house and manufactured via Decathlon's partner factories. There is no distributor markup and no dealer margin — the bike goes from factory to Decathlon store (or direct shipping) to the rider. This is why the RCR Pro Di2 can list at ≈$4,500 where a comparable Trek or Specialized lists at ≈$9,000+.
The catch: fit and service. Decathlon stores carry Van Rysel but the fitting expertise and post-sale service are not equivalent to a dedicated premium bike shop. For experienced riders who know their size and can self-maintain, Van Rysel is exceptional value. For first-time buyers wanting a fitted, serviced premium bike, the traditional brands still offer more support.
