Bottle cages and fit
The cage is the half of the system people ignore. A flimsy alloy cage will eject a bottle over the first pothole; an overly tight carbon cage will deform a soft LDPE bottle over weeks until it no longer seals. The right pairing is a cage that holds the bottle firmly enough to survive rough roads but releases it with a firm pull.
Side-loading cages are the answer for small frames or full-suspension mountain bikes where a vertical pull is blocked by the top tube or shock. Stainless steel cages (King Cage, Elite) are essentially indestructible and last decades. Carbon cages save 10–20 g and look pro; they are a flex, not a function.

Drinking on the bike — timing and volume
